Day 5

Day 5: We traveled from our hotel rooms (in which we resided for about 6 hours) to the United Methodist church in New Carlisle, Indiana. We had a long night of watching fireworks on Navy Pier in Chicago and traveling about an hour to our hotel we got to bed rather late. A time change and an earlier 10 a.m. service were a challenge for us to prepare for. We were very tired! We sang and experienced holy communion there and were fed a delicious covered dish lunch from this congregation who had not experienced hosting such a group before. The told us that they enjoyed us assisting in worship and we, again, left experiencing warm hospitality of God's people. After lunch we made it to Notre Dame in South Bend. We were impressed by the buildings and watched a short film about the beginnings of this Catholic University. Unfortunately, we couldn't really tour the Basilica as there was a Bacalaureate service at the time we tried to visit. From the doorway, peeking in, the paintings ornate structures were impressive. Kirsti and Brian both gave devotions today. The seniors have really helped us get a better perspective on some of the songs they are singing in concert. Our afternoon concert was for Southfield Village Retirement Community. The youth met and encouraged the residents there and sang well even in their fatigue. Our home for the next two nights was the Red Roof Inn and the pool was great! There was time to sleep a little more, finally.
